Five Cities 1st Pride Celebration
Saturday, June 1st 2019
12 to 4pm
Hertiage Square Park
Arroyo Grande, CA 93420
On Saturday, June 1st, 2019, 5 Cities Hope will hosted “Five Cities First Pride Celebration”. Pride took place at Heritage Square Park in the Village of Arroyo Grande, California from 12 to 4pm.
In 2018, we started talking about hosting the first Pride Celebration in the Five Cities area, as local pride celebrations had only existed in Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo. With the abundance of LGBTQ+ youth in the Five Cities, we decided that we needed to make Pride more accessible to this part of our community. We had Pride committee meetings and worked closely with the City of Arroyo Grande to make Pride a reality. Our board members and community members worked tirelessly to create this amazing and much needed event in the Five Cities!
Five Cities Pride showcased local musicians and drag performers. There was also a resource fair during the event that provided local resources and LGBTQ+ supportive business to those who attended. This included:
Five Cities Pride was also supported by multiple local officials on the Central Coast, including mayors, city council members, and even district supervisors.
5 Cities Hope’s youth group, SAGA City led the youth lounge, a space for LGBTQ+ youth to hang out. This included makeup tutorials from Drag Queen Juicy CW and Drag King Will Pleaser!
We’re also happy to announce our sponsors for Five Cities Pride:
Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County
901 West Grand Avenue
Grover Beach, CA
Diamond Adult World
Grover Beach, CA
We also partnered with local businesses to help bring Pride to the Five Cities!
A shout out to The Slice in Arroyo Grande for allowing us to hold a fundraiser to raise money for Five Cities Pride on February 28th.
5 Cities Hope is an all volunteer organization, so we thrive on community. We believe it’s vital to create inclusive spaces for our community to exist in, but to do that, we needed a lot of help! We relied on volunteers to help us plan and execute Pride.
